AdGuardHome (TypeScript) — Network-wide ads & trackers blocking DNS server
You want network-wide blocking with encrypted DNS and per-device rules from a single binary.
Security & Privacy · Self-Hosted
Network-wide DNS filtering, in the same category as Pi-hole but with more included in the box: encrypted DNS protocols (DNS-over-HTTPS, DNS-over-TLS, DNS-over-QUIC) built in, per-client rules, and parental controls, all from a single Go binary rather than a stack of components. Easier to install and to move between machines. GPL-3.0. The tradeoff is ecosystem rather than capability — Pi-hole has more community blocklists, tutorials and years of accumulated troubleshooting. It also shares the same structural limitation as any DNS blocker: it cannot block ads served from the same domain as the content, and it becomes a dependency your whole network needs to stay up.
You want network-wide blocking with encrypted DNS and per-device rules from a single binary.
You want the larger community and blocklist ecosystem around Pi-hole, or you cannot run reliable network DNS.
