immich (TypeScript) — High performance self-hosted photo and video management solution.
You have a NAS or home server and want your phone photos backed up somewhere you control, with search that actually works.
Media & Files · Self-Hosted
A self-hosted replacement for Google Photos, and the first one that genuinely feels like the real thing. Background upload from iOS and Android, face recognition, object search, albums, shared timelines, all running on your own hardware. TypeScript, AGPL-3.0, and the pace of development has been relentless. The tradeoff is operational: it moves fast, with frequent releases (v3.2.2 in September 2026) that you should read before upgrading, and like any self-hosted photo library it is only as safe as your backups. Treat it as the interface to your library and keep a separate backup. Hardware matters too — machine learning features want more RAM than a base Raspberry Pi has.

This would be the only copy of your photos, or you want something you never have to maintain.
