LibreTranslate (Python) — Free and Open Source Machine Translation API. Self-hosted, offline capable and easy to setup.
You need translation at volume where the content cannot leave your infrastructure and rough quality is acceptable.
AI & ML · Self-Hosted
A self-hosted translation API built on Argos Translate models, so text never reaches Google or DeepL. For products handling user messages, support tickets or documents, that removes a data-sharing question entirely, and there is no per-character bill. Python, AGPL-3.0, with a simple REST API. The tradeoff is quality: it is noticeably behind DeepL and Google on nuance, idiom and low-resource language pairs, and Indian language support in particular varies a lot by pair. Test your actual language pairs with your actual content before committing — the gap is acceptable for bulk internal translation and often not for anything customer-facing.
You need translation at volume where the content cannot leave your infrastructure and rough quality is acceptable.
Translation quality is customer-facing, or your language pairs are ones the models handle poorly.
