EDITOR'S DEEP TAKE

One of the two open video models that actually matter in mid-2026 (the other is CogVideo). Wan is easier to run locally than most closed alternatives and the Apache license is startup-friendly. Output quality trails Runway Gen-4 and Higgsfield noticeably but the gap is closing every release. Runs on a single 24GB GPU which puts it in reach of any dev workstation. Use as a backup when your hosted-tool budget runs out.

Use this if

You want to self-host video generation or fine-tune on your own footage.

Skip if

You need one-click cinematic quality for client work — hosted tools still win there.
